Belle had been kept sheltered and protected her whole life, so when she finds her mother unexpectedly dead in their motel room, her world is turned upside down, especially since Belle and her mother Karen had always been very close. Alone, with no one to help or advise her, she must make funeral arrangements and then plan the next step for the direction of her life. While going through some papers and documents that her mother had always kept in a locked box, Belle discovers that her mother had been keeping secrets. Secrets that seemed to involve her daughter.
Upon a chance encounter with a handsome attorney, who fills her romantic idea of the man of her dreams, Belle begins to see that it's time to take control of her life and live it the way she would like, and not necessarily the way her mother had planned. But first she has promised herself she would fulfill her mother's dream to visit the lighthouses along the Lake Michigan shore. As Belle travels the West Michigan shoreline, from Grand Haven heading north, she makes acquaintances along the way who will change the course of her life in surprising ways, and who open her eyes to possibilities of love.
Book 1 of The Lighthouse Trilogy begins a series of genealogical twists and turns that you won't see coming. Suspense, romance, family lies, secrets, and mistrust, all come together in a surprising ending. A clean romance that will send sparks and passion through the characters and straight to your heart. One of Jane O'Brien's best!

The 13th Lighthouse Book 1 The Lighthouse Trilogy edition by Jane O'Brien Religion Spirituality eBooks

I was disappointed that the author chose to include a description of the book as Christian, religious, and inspiring. It is none of those. The male MC lies whenever it is convenient. The two main characters have sex after meeting each other and talking only a couple of times. (It is not an explicit sex scene, however.) The only prayer is a quick mention of the Lord's prayer when scattering cremains. There is no reliance on God, but there is reliance on the dead mother's spirit to lead the MC.
The female MC lived hand to mouth and often had to eat crackers for supper. Yet she has an unending wardobe that includes many outfits, sandals and a shawl to match, and a choice of coordinating purses. There were just too many inconsistencies in the descriptions.
I will pass on reading more from this author. It was not a bad story, it just didn't match the description.

Could not put it down.
Her best so far. I really liked it.
A must read!! Growing up in Michigan myself, this book brought back so many warm memories. I can't wait for the sequel!! Well written from start to finish!
As a former Michigan resident, it felt so good to read names and recall places I knew. But the best part of this book is how well it was woven and tangled together- the last third of the book?? I couldn't put it down!! Loved the main character! I must stop before I say too much- Read it for yourself!!
The book was very moving in which my life had a turn as to what belle had gone through. Thank you so much for writing it
I enjoyed the book and it was a very nice easy read, secrets and discovery
Wonderful story that was told so well that I felt that I was really on the journey with the main character. There are great twists that make you think, and it's fun to try to put the pieces together as you go. I've always loved lighthouses as well but have never been to any of the Great Lakes, so I just had to look up the ones mentioned to see pictures and read about them as I went. After getting to know these characters, who are all really likeable, I'll definitely be reading the sequels in the trilogy.
